Exploring Faith

What does it mean to "explore faith"?

For us at St. Andrew's it means intentionally taking time to ask some of the big questions of life, like, "Who am I", "Who is God" and "Where does my life and God's life meet?" Sometimes we're invited to ask these questions of ourselves, other times we have the opportunity to see what answers we can come up with with someone else, or in a small group.

To help each other in this exploration, St. Andrew's has a number of worship gatherings, programmes and small groups. If you'd like more information than we've been able to provide here, please give us a call!

Reaching Out

Connection with God isn't just a "once-a-week-for-an-hour" thing. Although taking the time to sit still and be with God is extremely important, so is living what we believe.

As we learn from the one who reminded us to, "Love God with all your heart, mind and soul... and love your neighbour as you love yourself," (Mk 12.30-31) we recognize that a vital part of our faith journey is outside the walls of the church. As individuals, and as a community, we search for ways to help bring healing and wholeness to all of Creation.

Welcoming

We recognize that the place where faith and life meet in our lives is very personal. Each person who is takes part in this community has a different understanding of who God is calling each of us to be, and how God is calling us to live. We are working to be a community that celebrates our diversity with respect and love for all people.

At the St. Andrew's Dinner

We know that Christian community has not always welcomed (and in many places still does not welcome) our brothers and sisters who live 'in the margins' of society. While we continue to learn about some of our blind spots, and pray that God will help us to open our eyes and our hearts, the congregation has made a conscious choice to be as open, welcoming and affirming as possible.

Specifically, we recognize that the church has often denied gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgendered persons a place in the Christian community. We believe that God shows no partiality to people of a particular sexual orientation. God bestows love equally on all people. We gladly and proudly affirm the lives, the worth, the relationships and the spiritual gifts and ministry of people of all sexual orientations.

We are committed to being a community that welcomes all people, inviting them into a place where we can all safely explore what it means to be children of God and disciples of Christ.
